The NBCRNA National Certification Examination (NCE) measures the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for entry-level nurse anesthesia practice after completion of an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program. The current NCE is a variable-length computerized adaptive test with 100 to 170 questions and a maximum testing time of three hours. Pearson administers the NCE at test centers after NBCRNA confirms eligibility, and candidates cannot skip items or return to previous questions once an answer is recorded. Question formats can include multiple choice, calculations, drag and drop, hotspot, graphics, and other image-supported items; 30 unscored pretest questions appear throughout the exam. The 2025/2026 content outline for exams administered on or after January 2, 2024 lists Basic Sciences 20%, Equipment, Instrumentation and Technology 20%, General Principles of Anesthesia 35%, and Anesthesia for Surgical Procedures and Special Populations 25%. Candidates should also note NBCRNA's announced passing-standard update for exams administered on or after July 1, 2026; NBCRNA states that exam content and format remain the same.
Confirm the current handbook, scheduler rules, and ID requirements before you commit to a study or booking plan.
Use the official blueprint and a timed baseline to decide what needs review, drilling, or remediation first.
Run timed sets or full-length practice under the same delivery conditions you expect on exam day whenever possible.
Decide whether to sit CRNA National Certification Exam (NCE) now, delay briefly, or rebuild fundamentals based on measurable readiness instead of hope.
