The Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) is developed by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) and used by psychology licensing authorities in the United States and Canada. Candidates first apply to the state, provincial, or territorial licensing authority; after authorization, they complete registration in ASPPB's Certemy system and schedule the exam appointment with Pearson VUE. The current EPPP structure includes EPPP Part 1-Knowledge and EPPP Part 2-Skills. ASPPB advises candidates to confirm with their intended jurisdiction whether Part 2-Skills is required for licensure. Part 1-Knowledge contains 225 items, including 175 scored items and 50 unscored pretest items, with 4 hours and 15 minutes for exam items. Its eight content domains are Biological Bases of Behavior 10%, Cognitive-Affective Bases of Behavior 13%, Social and Cultural Bases of Behavior 11%, Growth and Lifespan Development 12%, Assessment and Diagnosis 16%, Treatment, Intervention, Prevention, and Supervision 15%, Research Methods and Statistics 7%, and Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues 16%. Part 2-Skills contains 170 items, including 130 scored items and 40 unscored pretest items, with 4 hours and 10 minutes for exam items. Its six domains are Scientific Orientation 6%, Assessment and Intervention 33%, Relational Competence 16%, Professionalism 11%, Ethical Practice 17%, and Collaboration, Consultation, and Supervision 17%. ASPPB uses scaled scores from 200 to 800 and recommends 500 as the passing score for independent practice on each part, while each licensing board sets its own passing and licensure standards. Candidates receive an unofficial score at the test center, scores are reported to the licensing authority, and candidates may not take either part more than four times in any 12-month period.
Confirm the current handbook, scheduler rules, and ID requirements before you commit to a study or booking plan.
Use the official blueprint and a timed baseline to decide what needs review, drilling, or remediation first.
Run timed sets or full-length practice under the same delivery conditions you expect on exam day whenever possible.
