The South Carolina Prov Barber CIB says SCLLR has contracted with Prov to administer NIC examinations for Barber 1, Barber Stylist, and Instructor candidates, and that all license categories require both written and practical examinations. The SC CIB says kits must be no larger than 30 inches by 30 inches, must fit completely under the candidate's work area, tripods must remain within the immediate work area, disinfectants must be disinfecting wipes, and sanitizers and all other products must be non-aerosol. The NIC Barber 1 (No Chemical) Practical CIB, effective June 1, 2025 and revised September 1, 2025, says the practical exam assesses tasks expected of a licensed professional in a realistic testing session. It requires a candidate supply kit, properly cleaned and disinfected implements, English-labeled products, EPA-registered disinfectant wipes, no aerosol disinfectants, and original manufacturer labels for disinfectants and hand sanitizers.
