ETA STS smart technology systems exam guide exam help

ETA Smart Technology Systems (STS) is the basic smart technology installation technician credential for residential and light-commercial properties. ETA's competency overview states that STS installation technicians interconnect electronics communications, data, computer, control, and entertainment equipment and converge signals into one system. The Basic STS technician is proficient in designing pre-wiring and wireless architectures for entertainment, internet of things, telecommunications, TV, satellite and antenna outlets, voice equipment outlets, audio and video, media streaming, and computer equipment interconnections.

ETA's certification catalog lists STS as a stand-alone certification with maintenance required, a 4-year term, no hands-on requirement, 75-80 questions, a 75% passing score, and 2 hours allowed to test. The STS program also includes four endorsement certifications: Audio-Video, Computer Networking, Environmental Controls, and Security-Surveillance. Preparation should cover worker and customer safety, OSHA body restraint rules, ladder and height hazards, NEC and NFPA code awareness, AHJ concepts, PPE, hand and power tools, wiring and cabling, diagrams and schematics, power sources, mechanical aptitude, test equipment, controls, telecommunications interconnections, IoT, media streaming, voice, TV, satellite/antenna outlets, HVAC controls, networking, security-surveillance foundations, problem solving, and standards-based installation practice.
